Antes De
A poetic and acrobatic movement performance for the very young
Between the foot and the step.
Between breath and word.
Where curiosity rubs against fear.
Where doubts, hesitations and decisions fill the void.
Where you move for the first time.
You dance,
with eager desire and innocent courage.
What goes on in the mind and body just before the first time? A first step? A first word? What journey does an action take before it becomes reality? And can we map out that invisible, yet deeply moving, journey?
In Antes de… Compagnie Tea Tree, just like children, takes a leap into the unknown. Sara Olmo and Pierre Viatour rely on each other in their partner acrobatics. Hand in hand and foot to foot, they take turns leading the dance, showing each other the way, and forging a path through uncharted territory.
About the company
Compagnie Tea Tree was founded by Sara Olmo and Pierre Viatour, who met during the creation of Cache-Cache at Théâtre de la Guimbarde. Sara is a choreographer, Pierre an actor and main-à-main performer. Together they developed a hybrid movement language between dance and circus.
The name of the company refers to the essential oil also known as tea tree or ‘theeboom’. For Sara and Pierre, the tree is a powerful symbol of nature, life and growth, and therefore an indispensable element for life on earth. Just like the oil, it is ‘essential’ for our survival. On an artistic level, they are convinced that art and culture are just as essential for human development.
Antes de … literally means: “just before”. Just before something happens. Before you take your first step. Before you jump. Before you dare to do something. That moment seems empty, but it is full: full of tension, thoughts and emotions. Pierre Viatour: And because we work very physically, in a hybrid form between dance and main-à-main (a form of partner acrobatics), we wanted to explore how you guide and support each other in those first moments
